has anyone used this as a filter media? Just wondering how well it work in comparison to traditional carbon. Also has anyone recharged it like it claims it can be?

here is the link to the product page. Purigen

Never used it myself, depending on the price difference between it and plain carbon it might be worth a try.

I tend to be skeptical of any aquarium product that claims to remove ammonia and nitrIte as they shouldn't be present in an established aquarium and need to be present in a cycling one in order for a tank to fully cycle. I really dislike when aquarium companies tout some new product that alters or effects it.

Soaking in bleach is just asking for trouble in the hands of people that don't know what they are doing. I very very rarely use bleach in my house because of what it can do environmentally to fish and plants outside the home.

those are my same concerns. I'm going to try it on my 55 gal planted aquarium, although I hardly see the need for it. I'm going to be watching the water parameters and see if anything goes wonky from what they are normally at.

Let us know how it goes, real life experience is always better than company spiel.

I agree that in an established tank there's hardly a need for it other than just as a bacteria colonization location.
