Corydoras adolfoi
Common Names: | Adolfo's Cory |
Synonyms: |
Family: | Callichthyidae |
Category: | Catfish_Bottom_Feeders |
Distribution: | America - South; America - South |
Main Ecosystem: | River; Mostly found in the Rio Negro. |
Temperament: | Peaceful; Very peaceful fish, they are great for community tanks. |
Diet: | Ominvore; They will eat most foods that sink down to their level. Flakes are a good staple food, and meaty foods make great treats. |
Care: | They are hardy fish, if taken care of properly. Hiding places in the form of decorations and clumps of plants are greatly appreciated. Open swimming space is equally important, though. They should be kept in a tank with either a sand or rounded gravel substrate, to prevent barbel erosion. Nitrates are another cause of barbel erosion, so these should be kept low. |

Potential Size: | Male: 4.5cm (1.8") Female: 5cm (2") |
Water Region: | Bottom; They spend almost all of their time on the substrate. |
Activity: | Nocturnal; These fish are nocturnal, though they are often active during the day. |
Gender: | Mature females are larger and fuller than males. |
Breeding: | Similar to that of other Corydoras. In a tank with soft water and an acidic ph, spawning is not hard to encourage. Condition these fish and change the tank's water frequently, and they should spawn readily. Females will lay eggs a few at a time, and usually place them on the aquarium glass. Fry should be fed with sinking fry foods, though it is reported that they are sometimes tough to feed. The fry should be kept with their parents, who show them how to eat. |
