Corydoras arcuatus
Common Names: | Arched Cory Skunk Cory |
Synonyms: |
Family: | Callichthyidae |
Category: | Catfish_Bottom_Feeders |
Distribution: | America - South; Brazil, Peru, and Ecuador |
Main Ecosystem: | River; Slow moving rivers, such as the Tefe River, and in parts of the Amazon. |
Temperament: | Peaceful; A very peaceful cory. It will never fight with other fish. |
Diet: | Ominvore; They will eat just about any foods that sink down to the bottom. Sinking pellets and flake foods make a good staple diet, and tubifex worms are relished. |
Care: | Corydoras arcuatus is more sensitive to water conditions than other similarly sized cories. This species tends to be quite sensitive to nitrates, and is e to barbel erosion brought on by high nitrate levels. Good water quality and filtration are very helpful if you want to successfully keep this fish. Regular water changes and gravel vacuumings are a must. These cories appreciate a few hiding places like all cories, but also need some open swimming space. They should be kept in shoals of at least 6. |

Water Region: | Bottom; They stay almost entirely on the bottom. |
Activity: | Nocturnal; Though they are most active at night, they come out during daytime as well. |
Gender: | Females are plumper and larger when viewed from above, and are also said to be less colorful. |
Breeding: | Breeding is similar to that of other cories, though harder to entice in this species. Adding cooler water (about 17 degrees) to the tank seems to be the catalyst for spawning. |

Comments: | These fish are great for a community aquarium, as they are peaceful, fun to watch, and they help clean the bottom of leftover food. As long as they are in a tank with good water quality, the fish should thrive. |
