Care: Feed with flake or frozen foods. The severum is a messy eater and will quickly foul the tank water. Frequent water changes and good filtration are necessary. The severum should be kept in at least a 75 gallon tank, though some say a 55 gallon is fine.

Gender: Males have long, pointed dorsal and anal fins.
Breeding: Use a lower pH of 6.2 and a higher temperature of 25-28°C. The eggs are laid on a carefully cleaned rock.
Variants: Color variations include gold, bown, peruvian green, and on rare occasions possibly mixed with a bit of red.
Comments: Green Severums are very peaceful for cichlids and are recommended for beginners. Young Green Severums have black vertical stripes along their body which they lose with age. Only the rear stripe is retained. Over time Green Severums become very trusting of their owner and can be hand fed.
