Gender: | Daffodil males have quite elongated fins tips while the females in comparison are stubby. The male also develops the typical cichlid style hump on the forehead. |
Breeding: | Cave breeders that will defend the fry until death if need be. Pairs are easy to obtain as they will often pair if solely with the opposite sex. After laying the eggs on the roof/walls of their selected caves and guarding them, they will tend to the fry until the fry are able to tend to themselves. |

Comments: | Daffodils are often confused with the Neolamprologus brichardi as they are extremely simialar. N. brichardi have blue/grey colored fins and black markings on the gill cover that form a t-like shape, while N. pulcher has yellowish fins and the markings on the gill cover form a C-like shape. These are two separate species. |
