Best kept in the ph ranges listed, as this fish does not fare well outside these ranges. Of the different types of spawners, this fish spawns in the soft substrate, or peat, as preferred by most killifish breeders. Lots of plants are preferred to keep this fish happy. If given the proper environment, this fish will spawn readily. A very beautiful fish, |

Gender: | Males have longer and pointed dorsal, caudal, and anal fins. They are more colorful, with deep burgundy colors on the body and dark orange on the fins and tail. While the females are more drab brown. |
Breeding: | To breed this fish, it is best kept in a colony of 2 males to 3-4 females. But has been done with pairs. The fish have a courtship dance with each other, before plunging into the substrate or peat moss. There the female lays the eggs while the male fertilizes them. They will shimmer in and on the peat while dispersing and fertilizing the eggs. Remove the peat, and place in a damp dark container for 6-10 weeks. Then place the peat with the eggs in a different tank, of a temp around 22-2 |

Comments: | A rare fish to find. And not for the beginner. But a great challenge for any hobbyist. A most beautiful fish, with dark rich colors verses bright flashy colors of most killifish available in the hobby. Very peaceful. Prefers live or frozen foods, over flake. Will only take flake if nothing else available, thus will become malnourished on flake. To breed these fish will require live or frozen foods. |
