Distribution: Indo Pacific; Found in the Indo-Pacific region and often collected from Hawaii, the Indian Sea, Japan, and the Red Sea.

Temperament: Peaceful; A very peaceful fish considered to be reef safe if fed well. If left hungry it may nip at corals and inverts while grazing on algae. You have a better chance of keeping it with a reef in a large established system.

Care: Fish start life as herbivores and sometimes appreciate a more meaty diet as they grow larger. Wild specimens live mainly off of red and brown algaes. In captivity they will readily accept marine algaes (dried or frozen), lettuce (of little nutritional value), seaweed, zucchini, broccoli, spirulina, reppared herbivore foods commercially sold, and as they get larger: mysid shrimp, brine shrimp, worms, and sponges. 150 gallon tank is a bare minimal with 180 gallons being more practical for a minim

Comments: While the Naso Tang is very hard to acclimate it is a wonderful, active addition to your large tank. Specimens should only be purchased which are swimming actively and well-fed. The addition of this tang should only be considered with established tanks.
