Temperament: Peaceful; Great fish for the reef and invertebrate system. Generally non-aggressive towards own species if introduced at the same time, and are provided about a cubic foot each of territory.
Diet: Carnivore; Eats mainly zooplankton in the wild, but takes readily to frozen brine, mysis, crushed krill, and other crustaceans. Due to cautious nature, may need to be target fed.
Care: To live comfortably, the pearly jawfish should be given a deep sand bed of at least 5, preferably 6 or more, inches of mixed grades. The base can be a various grades of aragonite, mixed with crushed coral and other small reef rubble to build it's cave. If given all one size, the cave will continually colapse.

Comments: Known to jump, so keep the tank covered as best as possible. Less likely to jump if it has a satisfactory burrow. Jawfish are one of the most interesting fish alive to watch behaviorally. A wary fish that lives mainly in it's cave, watching for food to pass by and for any predators. As food passes by it will dart, lightning fast, for the food and dart back to it's cave just as fast.
