Reason: | Variable aggression, peaceful is too relative for a description here, may cause fish to be introduced into more peaceful systems where the acaras dominance and breeding aggression could cause deaths and injuries to even larger fish. Will predate upon smaller fish, Natural predator of the guppy. Recently watched a tank where a large male blue acara regularly sparred with an adult uaru and constantly sparred visciously with a large adult male severum. The acara only ceased when both other heros species were subdued. There was significant fin damage & lip damage. My 8 own specimens are highly aggressive at breeding times and have damaged adult silver dollars. 6 Fully adult siamese flying foxes had to be removed to prevent severe mutilation, scales were picked off in multiple areas. The bite power of blue acaras is significant, even at only 3-4 inches of current size. Adults are powerful fish.Sparring initiated in less than 3 months of age. Plecostomus species, larger catfish, and others like polypterus species are typically ignored. Can provide video evidence if proof is needed. |
