So the best way to feed ottos vegetables is the method described above... boil in water then dip in cold water?

The only thing I have witnessed my otos eating (except off the glass) is Hikari carnivore sinking pellets.:%)

How about my Otocinclus Pet Rock™ method?

Step 1 : Obtain some jars.

Step 2 : Fill jars about 60% full with water. Use water from a mature aquarium. Old water from a water change/gravel vac operation is perfect.

Step 3 : Add to jar contents small bits of rock, small bits of bogwood/driftwood, even garish plastic aquarium ornaments if you have a few spare ones lying around!

Step 4 : Leave jars in location where they can receive natural daylight (preferably some bright sunshine!) for a few days.

Step 5 : When assorted objects in jars have a nice coating of green fur, take out of jars, pop in aquarium with your Otocinclus. Your Otocinclus will love you for this

Oh, and if you cycle objects on a regular basis through several jars, you'll have a permanent supply of algae treats for your Otocinclus. These can be made even more tempting by dumping algae scrapings from aquaria of the appropriate sort (e.g., brown diatomaceous algae or the green spots that appear on the aquarium glass) in the jars to set the cultures off. Needless to say, don't seed the jars with cyanobacteria/bluegreen algae or the horrid black brush algae, as your Otocinclus won't appreciate this!

Oh, and when pruning plants, if you have, for example, Amazon Sword or Cryptocoryne leaves that have algal fur upon them, instead of dumping them in the trash, leave them for your Otocinclus to munch the algae off. It's amazing how they love treats like this!

With fresh veggies, it's usually best to blanch (cook in boiling water for about 1 minute) and then shock (dunk it in ice water after you take it out of the boiling water) to stop the cooking, then tie it to a weight and put it in the tank. I leave mine overnight and take it out in the morning.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

My ottos never are seen during the day anymore since they lost one of their buddies . They hide with the cories all day and mostly come out at night now. They eat algae but they arent doing to great of a job with cleaning the tank so I want to try other sources of food like veggies. So what do you feed your ottos?

I find mine do a great job with very short algae, but won't eat it if it becomes longer than about 1/4inch. Though they seem to suck at it to eat micro-algae that gets stuck on it. Mostly they eat the scraps of flake left by the other fish but i also give them broken up hikari wafers about once a week.

If you have Algae in your tank, i wouldn't worry much about them. They're small but quite capable to search for food.

Sorry Drift Wood
It is only a small piece therefore I will have to fix it to a small rock with an elastic band.

I have only had mine for 4 days and they would not look at a small Algae chip. They seem content to search for Algea themselves. They are busy all day going over the plant leaves and the glass.

I will keep trying dont worry about that. At the moment I have a small piece of DW in a jar outside in the sun this should give me a good algae for them.

My otos will eat just about anything I put in the tank including the Tetra Color bits and flake. If there are veggies in the tank however they go for that first but don't seem to mind just the spirulina wafers either.

I've given my otos cucumber, zucchini, spinach, lettuce, and frozen broccoli (thawed & rinsed). IME broccoli is quite a favorite.
