I was bitten once by one of my oscars, but that's just because i was hand feeding him and he took a bigger bite than he should have , it did not hurt but it definately surprised me, i also got bitten on many occasions by my red devil.]

ive been nailed heaps of times by my oscars, but the only fish that drew blood is my flowerhorn, and she will only bite me when ive been tormenting her,]:|but she is pretty cool most of the timei find that my oscras dont break the skin but i rekon they hurt more, cause my oscars are quite a bit bigger than my flowerhorn.probly got stronger jaws.cheeky buggers.

I have never been bitten by any of my tank fish, but plenty of times while fishing. Some of the Marine fish have very powerfull jaws/teeth.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

My old oscars had bitten me, and surprisingly, breeding convicts hurt alot more than the full grown oscars.

I had my finger once in the water while i was talking to my brother and my arowanna had tried to swallow my finger, probably having half of my finger in it's mouth. It didnt hurt, it felt more like sandpaper in a glove.

@ all of your stories. The funny thing is that he lets me pat him on the head when I feed him his tubifex blocks too. I think its when the whole arm comes in and not just the fingers and get him upset. The tank is a 55 gal with him, the firemouth, a pleco, and 4 tiger barbs. The barbs were in there for some movement in the tank, but if I forget to give my sev. a bedtime snack, he'll find one for himself if you know what I mean.

The worst part about him biting me is that he got me from behind on the underside of my arm on that more tender skin-like he studies human anatomy or something. Every time I lay my arm on the desk at the computer now it stings.

Heidi's acie bit me....she says he was just playing, but it was a pretty good nip. No blood, but weird. My angels have nipped Heidi also, but then she didn't know that I hand feed them bloodworms and such.

You problem sounds like a territorial issue to me as well fishie and unless your fish gets bored with that area the problem will remain. Try and keep away is my advice

I get bitten every time I put my hand into out oscar tank and sometimes they draw blood, but that's because they're trying to breed so they get very territorial
I've also been bitten by a blue acara, BGK, and red jewel cichlid but the oscars definately hurt the most

My JD bit me a couple years ago. I was getting ready to feed him and had the tank's lid open...jumped a couple inches out of the water and bit my finger...basically the same story that you've got, jason It rather hurt...didn't draw blood tho...

Yeah, i've had both of my Oscars bite me. Little $%^@#s. I set about teachinig them not to bite me... and they don't any more. Even at feeding time. I make a point of patting them before and during feeding. That way, they know what a finger is and that it's not food. Oh... and i get to pat them, which is actually really nice

that does seem a bit extreme for a severum, but nothing out of the ordinary for many larger cichlids. I've been bitten a few different times. I had an oscar bite me once, but I honestly think he was just looking for food. I also more recently had my trimac bite me but again I think he was looking for food as well. with the trimac, I had lifted the hood and was getting food ready with one hand while my other hand was above the water surface. the trimac jumped a good 2-3" out of the water and bit my finger. he didn't draw blood but it did sting...he's got some good sized teeth on his lip.

as far as you doing anything about it...there's really nothing you can do but keep your hand out of his area. if he's keeping a firemouth pinned down then the tank might not be big enough for the fish you have. what size tank do you have and what fish (besides the severum and firemouth) do you have in it?

Sometimes fish bite & i think that, it's more of a territorial problem, or when they have fry.
