I try to have extra parts on hand, but I end up using them permanently in my tanks, so I never have enough extras

I try to have an extra powerhead, airpump w/lines gangs diffusers etc, lights, bulbs, filter media (wool, carbon, etc... I make my own filtration systems 90% of the time).

I've got a lot of food, but it all gets fed to the fish rather quickly, and I buy new food every few weeks so they can have more variety, and to replace stuff that's running out/low

Only the basics, and only because I took down some tanks. So technically I have spare tanks too.

I have a spare 10G tank, but I keep it on hand for quarantining rodents, not fish.

I do have an extra heater and filter, as well as some gravel and (ugly) fake plants, but that's just stuff that I've accumulated over the years, never really thought about stocking up on spares.

Stuff is too expensive to just toss out. anything extra like gravel, tubing etc goes in my spares box, along with heaters and filters from upgrades and so on.
Sigh, I sound like a packrat.

After just 3 weeks of fish keeping I have bought two s/h tanks that included loads of extras and have been given several things too.

So I have spare:
coral sand, gravel, ocean rock, large ornaments, gravel cleaners, breeder tanks,
3 filters of varying sizes, spare heater which I use for warming water for water changes, air pumps and power heads, air stones, nrvalves, miles of tubing and LOTS of little black fitting things that I have no idea what they are for!!
What I would like to have is a spare tank in case one of mine starts leaking and should buy some sealant.
Thanks for the tip of looking out for garage sales ;-)

I really should have more than I do, but I do have some basics. I also have enough food to feed all the fishies - with a rather varied diet - for at least half a year. And meds, too, even though those weren't asked about... I've got a decent storage of that, including a nice big bottle of melafix.

I don't but should but:
a. storage
b. priorities (always seems to be other essentials to spend on)

I have all sorts of odds and ends. I don't know where they keep coming from, butthey do keep appearing each time i shuffle something in the closet I know when I get the 20 long and 55 back up things will be a little less in spare, but that can be fixed easily enough heck you never know when you or your friend might just need a little extra filtration, lighting, plugs, airline, aerationwell you get the drift

I buy tons of stuff at stores on clearance "just in case".
I have things that aren't even neccesary, for the same reason. But as I said, I only buy the extra stuff if it's on clearance, or maybe a good sale.

Do you have any spare parts for your tank/s?

I always have spare heaters, pumps, air tubing, a mix of connectors, even power boards.

I also have plenty of driftwood, plenty of substrate nerw and used, and rocks.

I am not refering to having medications at all.

Do you have any thing that you think is essential to always have?

I pick up tanks at garage sales for next to nothing just for the parts

I only have some extra tubing and air lines. I have some extra air stones, extra pumps (because I keep buying low-powered ones, darn it!).

But I don't have what I would consider essentials, like food, sealant, gravel, and filter cartridges.

Thankfully my local lfs is having a Labor Day sale, so I'll probably pick up a lot of those things over the weekend.

I have the old stuff i used before i bought the new stuff, that all hangs around in buckets under tanks and on top of wardrobes!

i don't know that i would actually trust the heaters to work again mind you......

and do the rest you have odd bits of things - like grey bits of plastic and tubes and bits of heater cover that don't fit any thing? or is that just me?

For some reason I got almost fanatical about filter cartridges and have lots of spares. Excel, Aqua Plus, and Cycle I buy in 2 liter bottles.

Then I have some cheap-o basics for emergencies...small air pump, air line, corner filter.

Dry food is another story...I bet I could easily feed my fish for a good 6 months and still not run out
