Question:

Do they work if there is a background on the back of a tank? Say for example, if you have a posterboard black background - would it still work over the posterboard, or would you have to take it down to use it?

Magnetic algae scrapers are a lifesaver. The only brand I've tried though that seems to work well is MagFloat... All the other ones just seem sort of crappy in comparison.

Definitely worth having - but get the right size (or a size up) and remember that if you only use them when there's lots of algae they may not be helpful - better to use them on a regular basis to prevent algae gaining a hold. Since they're so easy to use, it's not asking much to scrub twice a week or even daily.

Just don't mix the acrylic cleaners with the glass cleaners!

Definitely worth having. And the newer models that have the ability to float are great. When they first came out it was always a pain to pull them out of a deep tank when the inside one broke free.

I have 3 different sizes, and use them all the time. They work great. I just wish I could have come up with that idea.
