snails, there is always doing the penny trick, add a few copper pennies to your filter and then remove any snails alive or dead that you see each and every day, and keep an eye on your water parameters...

Then there is adding a nice big piece of lettuce to the tank at night, and in the morning remove the lettuce and the snails that are on it, do this every day for a week or so and you should be good

Or you could go the more drastic way i didI removed all the gravel and replaced it and am now killing each and every one i see, and am keeping a close eye on any site of snail eggs...i'm hoping this will work as well, but you do risk sending your tank into a cycle by doing this, so it might not be a choice you even want to think about

it won't hurt for a couple weeks? I have done that in my 12 G with Clown Loaches, they have been there for a 2 weeks so far and I am picking out empty shells!

Just keep an eye on you water quality, I added extra plants to try and help and have done extra WCs.

now i COULD be wrong here. but i'd guess as long as it was planted pretty good, a dwarf may clean house with whats in there. but then theres the possible problem of eggs laying aroudn the tank.

i don't know if the pennies are such a good idea. think about how dirty pennies are. millions of people handling them, coughing on them, dropping them, etc. i wouldn't put a penny in my mouth, so i wouldn't put it in a fish tank either. even if you cleaned them, the chances of you getting all the cleaner off the pennies is slim to none. you should keep an eye on the fish and do some serious water changes. you've always gotta be careful about what goes into your tank. any serious dirt or soap could kill your whole tank. if the pennies can kill snails, they can kill fish too.

if you see anymore snails, boil a piece of ziucini or lettus (or some other veggie) and lay it on the bottom of the tank (wait til it cools to room temperature, obviously). wait a couple days while the vegetable gets covered in snails, then remove the veggie with the snails still attached to it. do this a few times and the snails should be gone.

snails aren't overly terrible in the first place though. they do happen to eat uneaten food and stuff that collects throughout your tank.

I've tried using lettuce for snails and they ignored it.

You coudl always let me take care of your tank for a few weeks I will kill them for you...lol I have had TERRIBLE luck with snails lately! If you find anymore snails, try something a little stronger than pennies maybe... Try a piece of copper pipe in there for a night or so maybe, I don't know if this would hurt the fish or not. I am pretty sure that it wouldn't. Someone please advise against this if it woudl hurt them, but if a penny is ok then I highly doubt that a piece of piping woudl hurt them.

If your going to use copper why don't you just buy a copper treatment made for fish tanks instead of dropping in foreign objects that could potentially be carrying other junk on them. You also can't measure the amount of copper your releasing into the water and at some point copper concentrations will kill fish. It's not like copper meds are that expensive.

Don't add salt anymore if you value your ottos.

If you control how much you feed the fish, you can control the population of snails. Usually this is all that is required.

As far as overstocking a tank or subjecting a loach(es) to unnecessary stress just to get rid of some snails, that's totally ridiculous and I suggest against it. Fishkeeping is about what you can do for the fish, not what they can do for you.
