Looks a lot like one of the smaller macrobranchium, possibly an indian long-armed shrimp or similar species like a M.hendersoni ( macro red claw in this case, henderson identified hundreds of variants especially in thailand and colombia). TBH theres loads of em and even redclaws dont always have um...red claws!

Anyone who says they can absolutely positively identify that for you is probably bs'ing you. These guys because of variability and massive distribution are almost impossible to identify, except maybe , by real taxonomists. You may never find the correct subspecies.

Ive had this one over a year and im still not positive!

You better hope it's a smaller Macrobrachium, Jim. I got some kind of Macrobrachium species (tentatively identified last year as M. lar by an FPer, although at this point I don't think that's what it is. Someone suggested M. rosenbergii a little while back and I'm liking that choice better) in a shipment of Amanos and the darn thing is a now full 10 inches fully extended. I had to move it into its own tank when it was about 3 inches long because it kept eating the fish in my main tank.

I'd love to get rid of him, but I can't even give him away to any LFS around me. They don't want him.

Here's a picture of him about 2 years ago when he was still in the main tank.

Not to threadjack (even though I am ), but I just took some new pics.

The thing in front of him is the remnants of a nightcrawler.

I guess my advice to you, Jim, is to watch how fast they grows. If they get much bigger, watch them close and count your fish every day! If you start losing some, make them your prime suspect.

Wow, not joe.. that's crazy! It must have been really weird getting an "amano" that got to 10 inches! I bet it's hard for LFS to take something like that.

The pottery that growls!

If yours are truly M. rosenbergii, get them out of your tank as soon as you can. They WILL start eating your fish the minute they are big enough to catch them.

That being said, who'd you get the ID from? I'm with LHG in saying that small Macrobrachium are really hard to identify.

Edit: For whatever reason, I keep typing "it" like you only have one. I'm good with my singular and plural words.

Yeah, I just checked out your thread. They do seem to know what they're talking about.

So, you got 3 potential 1-foot monsters on your hands. What's your plan?
