I've heard of applesnails being used in both.

I kept one in a tropical tank and it did very well.

For more applesnail info, you can check out applesnail.net

I'll do graffiti,
If you sing to me in French.

They come from and can withstand varied temperatures but the temperature impacts their lifespan. At higher temps they have a higher metabolism so eat more, are more active, and die sooner. If you keep them in the low 70s F they will live several months longer and if kept above 80F will probably live 1year or less. It's not really that it makes their health bad it just speeds them up. Alot of people keep their breeding snails in 80-82F water so they produce eggs faster and the youngesters grow up faster. I would recommend though temps around 76-78F for applesnails since at that temp they will survive around 2years giving you time to enjoy your snail and that temp is still compatible with most tropical fish. Nerites are frequently kept in the low 80s and still live longer than applesnails typically do. The only nerites I've personally kept are saltwater so I don't know too much about the usual lifespan of fresh-brackish nerites.
