Okay, here is the situation. I bought an apple snail to help combat a cynobacteria issue (no one here seemed to want to give me ideas on how to get rid of it, so I went site searching and it was one of the methods in a long list of methods I found on how to fight the bacteria). Anyway, there were some very nice plants in the tank that I had cleaned off but did not want to move to my other tank for fear of contamination. I bought the smallest apple snail I could find... which was still BIG, but not softball size like the others he was with. Anyway, long story short, I put him in my tank, and the next day when I came home from work, not only was my tank cleared of bacteria, but it was also TOTALLY plant free!!! He chowed down!!! If you looked at the tank you would not even know plants had ever been in there! In everything I have ever read it always said they were plant safe.

Apple snail is a loose term meant to fit a very large group of snails...there is more than one species of apple snail. Some would die before eating your live plants, and others would happily eat every plant you have. http://www.applesnail.net/content/species/pomacea_bridgesi.htm]http://www.applesnail.net/content/species/pomacea_bridgesi.htm[/link] is what you want if you want an apple snail that will not chow down on live plants. Other species of apple snails can be found here - [link=http://www.applesnail.net/ under the species tab.

Well, obviously I bought myself a plant chomping variety. Oh well, my plans were not to keep it anyway. I just needed something heavy duty to remove the bacteria issue, and it worked, even if it removed everything else as well. LOL! Thanks for the help Jake.
