I just wild-caught three yabbies from a freshwater pond not far away from me and I was wondering whether or not I could put it in my 120 Litre 3ft Fish tank. It has other fish in it like tetras, corys and small Bristlenoses. If I add the Yabbies, will they eat my fish? Also, I have freshwater crayfish food, so I can look after them.

Hi Jay Hopper, I would definately advise against adding them to your tropical aquarium.

Yabbies belong in cold freshwater ponds. The temperature in your tank will probably be too high for them and also you risk introducing disease or other contaminants that could be present like parasites.

Please dont add them. If you have an outdoor pond you could add them to that. I have successfully kept yabbies and gold fish in a pond and the yabbies even had babies.

If you dont have anywhere else to keep them I would suggest returning them.

Those who say they cant, Never will !!!

I second that, not only will they eat your fish, they'll most likely keel over from improper housing shortly after.
Please return them to the wild.
