If you've never raised baby poms before, I should advise you that those eggs are nearly bulletproof. Go ahead and scrape them off, and place them in a seperate section of the tank.

Do you have more than one snail? If so, after a few days you should be able to tell if they're fertile. They turn very opaque, which is kinda hard to determine, until you've seen a bunch of them.

If you want them to hatch (understanding there will be more than 100), leaving them there is the best thing. With warm, humid air they will hatch in about 2 weeks. And they are pretty indestructible that way. Unless they mold, or attract little black bugs.

Taking them out and attempting to incubate them becomes more difficult. But, it allows you to raise your water level back up. I was only successful with this method during the summer. I'll describe it if anyone's interested.

Just a thought: I remember the pic you posted of your snails... If that's the only two you have, I don't think you'll get babies, since they're a different species. But, of course they don't realize that, and the mating stimulates egg production.

i have 4 snails, but i know at least 2 are the same species. or at least i'm pretty sure they're the same species, but i am also pretty sure that they are both female unless they changed gender when i wasn't looking

They've been known to change genders. Especially when people try to limit the tank to all females or all males.

Congrats! What did you decide to do with the first clutch?

The female's the one with the male on her back!

Females are also larger, and the only ones that "scout" above the water line. Males rarely, even partially, leave the water. You can also look for the penis sheath (or lack thereof). It's a yellowish lump on the roof of the mantle, on the opposite side from the siphon.

the first one is still there, i haven't done anything with it yet so in a few weeks, i'll probably have 200 baby snails :%):%):%) if only females go above the water line, then my monster snail is a female as well as my one dark snail. they pretty much go sideways, so i can't tell which one is on who's back

Congrats also from me Moondog. Mine are still just in test mode I guess. LOL No clutchs yet. I have no room for 100 to 200 baby snails anyway...

don't worry, if these things hatch, i will probably be sending lots of free snails to people here we'll see how that works out. if they come out with a nice color i can probably sell them to the lfs here. they sell the one kind of snail i have for $5 just cause they are "albino" they aren't even that much smaller than the ones i have right now and i paid $5 for 3 at a different lfs
