I have had this Dwarf Powder Blue Gourami for about 2 weeks now. He must be eating, because he's still alive, but everytime I feed him, I watch to make sure he's eating. He seems to take the food (tropical fish flake food and occasionally red grubs) in his mouth, then promptly spits it back out. And I notice he's very fond of looking for his food in amongst the floating plants I have in the tank. So I try to drop his food in there for him. But I'm getting concerned that he's not keeping any of his food down...he seems to spit it out all the time. ARe they picky eaters?

I've known some to be 'picky' when first introduced but I shouldn't worry unless it refuses completely.

most fish are picky. just give them a lot of choices of food and they should be ok. a good drop 2 food is bloodworms both freezed dried or frozen.

My gourami's do exactly the same. suck food in and spit it out. I think its just them softening food.
Mine are still alive after several months of doing this so i wouldn't worry at all.

A lot of fish have big mouths but small throats, so they quite grab more food then they handle and spit some out. He should be fine. If he's looking for food, he has a normal appetite and is healthy.

my gourami does that too but if I watch long enough I see that eventually he swallows it. Mine does not eat flake food at all. Try some tubifex. I think fish love how they squirm around and they stay alive for a long time so there is no worry about them rotting in the tank.
