Before I do this I want to know what I should do to prepare the tank for him. Are any of the fish ion my sig fin nippers? And how do I create a quiet spot for him free of current? |

I noticed they are more comfortable and less stressed in smaller tanks. ~*~ Caviar? no thanks! ~*~ |

One of mine hated being in a 10 gallon so much he started laying on the bottom all the time and ate very little. When he stopped eating altogether, I put him in a smaller tank and now he's very happy: making bubble nests, getting really excited at feeding time- especially when I have the fozen bloodworm cup in my hand. It really depends on the betta I guess. Regarding snails, I have seen one of my boys eat a snail. It was on a plant I'd just put in his tank and he just sort of flipped in over and sucked it out, just like my Yoyo loaches do. |

Black skirts are going to be an issue. I thought they might be.... Might have to re-think this..... ![]() |

You could always pull out the snails and feed them to your bettas, though. ![]() ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

Personal Experience: I had a female betta living in a .5 gallon bowl. She was happy, healthy, bright in color, and always puffing air bubbles at the surface. Her belly was full of eggs and she was very plump...which is a sign of good health in a female betta. Then, I moved her into a beautiful heavily planted 20 gallon long tank which also had a lace catfish and somw white clouds which didn't bother her at all. Over a period of 2 weeks, her belly got smaller and smaller to the point where her belly looked like a male betta....no eggs. She hated the filter current, and she was not as bright red as she had been in the half gallon bowl. ....she is now back in a half gallon bowl and is happier than ever....and her belly is plump with eggs again. ![]() ~*~ Caviar? no thanks! ~*~ |
