I have a male betta that built a huge bubblenest for the female but she doesnt want to breed. He keeps chasing her and ripping the tail. The first female that I had, he has bred with her 3 times and on the 4th time he killed her before they actually mated so i bought a new one and now had to separate them for the 3rd time because she is getting injured. What do I do? The male has bred succesfully the first 3 times without harming the female much at all and now he turned wild!

Is she properly conditioned?

Also, t may help if they can see each other for longer before they can reach each other. Keep her in teh jar/chimney for a longer time. Is she showing verticle bars?

The female was conditioned with bloodworms, tubifex, mosquito larvae, etc... I couldnt tell if she had any bars because she is white. They did see each other for 3 days and the male built a large nest so i let her go with him, and they didnt want to do it.

I've had similar problems with pale coloured females too. Is the male white as well? From my experiments it looks like sometimes bettas with white bodies(that can't show stripes) aren't recognised as bettas or are treated differently.

Could you see her egg spot?

just put the female next to the males tank and let her get use to it and then add her in. and since you want to breed bettas you must have agreed to the rule that you must have time so u can let her go in the tank and you have the time to make sure that she is fine. don't forget that fighting is normal.

Do you know how old she is? It's not uncommon for bettas to stop breeding by the time they're 14 months-2 years old. And by the the time they hit the pet shops, they're often a year old, which doesn't give you a very bit window of opportunity to breed them.

the females don't always have to show stripes. and just because she's not showing the "ooh he's handsome bars" doesn't mean she won't accept him after a few tries. she's a girl afterall and we change our minds a lot!
there's a great article here under " Articles" about breeding bettas. i say give them more time, keep their tanks next to eachother for at least a week and let them get used to eachother. maybe she doesn't like the bubble nest he built? does she run through the nest and kinda burst all the tiny bubbles with her body/tail, if so that's her way of saying " u call that a nest?!?!? puh-lease who do u think i am, that ex betta of yours??" all joking aside, this is very possible, if none of this works check out bettatalk.com taht girl knows her bettas!!!!
