Most gourami are a very peaceful and shy species and they would not be very happy as well. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Bettas generally shouldn't be mixed with any labyrinth fish(gouramis, paradise fish, other bettas.. ) because they are highly likely to fight. You also shouldn't mix most gourami species unless you know what your doing and know the disposition of the individual species. Alot of gouramis can be quite agressive toward each ohter. My blue gourami would be even more likely to tear up a betta than the betta is to tear him up. Plus most of the common gouramis(such as the 3spot/blue) won't even fit by themselves in a 10. To keep more than one you'd need at least a 29g possibly a 55g depending on species. I think you need a much larger tank or to really start looking at some considerably smaller fish. |

When you are in any forum, if you will notice on the right side there is a tab that lists the topics for the last two weeks. You can change that tab to show all the topics for a mo. or year or just ALL of them. You can browse the topics & read just the ones you are interested in. Also when you go to any forum if you look at the top left of the page you will see the word "search" among others. If you click that it gives you the option to type in any word you are interested in getting any info. on, such as fish. I typed in "10 gal." & a list of subjects came up where people were asking about what they could put into a 10 ga. tank. These two things will answer a lot of questions that you have. But sometimes there are differing opinions on the same subject.............. so after reading all you can find on anything, you might still not be clear as to what you can have in that tank............ so come back to a forum & ask just to be sure that your final choice gets the approval of most of the people here. We will be waiting to hear from you. I'm sure your final choice will prove interesting. |

illustrae Fish Addict Posts: 820 Kudos: 876 Registered: 04-May-2005 | Gouramis are not schooling fish at all. Some of them like to be in harem groups of one male and several females, but some are just plain mean and don't want to be with anybody. I have kept a trio of Pearl Gouramis with a sinlg efemale betta for a few months now with no problems at all. Pearl gouramis are known for being a little more laid back than some of the other species, and I have an unusually social betta, so it works out in my tank, but in general mixing labrynth fishes doesn't usually work so well. If you do try it, have a contingency plan in place in case it doesn't work out. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

Okyrah Small Fry Posts: 7 Kudos: 4 Votes: 0 Registered: 10-Nov-2006 | It's possible, sure. But I wouldn't try it in anything less than a 55 gallon with lots of hiding spots. I am thinking of adding a betta to my 55 gallon, but it doesn't have any gouramis in it. 55 Gallon Aquarium 10 Gallon Poison Dart Frog Viv (Soon) 30 Gallon Hex Paludarium |
