I was looknig around and I saw a lot of gouramis that I liked, especially the ones with nice blue coloring that I would like in my aquarium. I liked the Blue Gourami, and the Coral Blue Dwarf Gourami in particular. The profile acted like they are mainly peaceful, but I was wondeing if anyone has had good experince with Gouramis, and would know if they go ok in a 29 gal tank, if they would go with angelfish and barbs, and if on average, they can be put with most non-agressive fish. Thanks

Blues can be quite aggressive toward other gouramis and I would avoid putting more than one in anything under 55g unless you do lots of females to a male or a very well planted tank. Dwarf blues are quite the opposite and most of them seem to be quite peaceful. My 2 powder blue males hang out together and avoid my blue gourami. Also remember many gourami varieties sold at stores are just color morphs of the blue gourami. You could easily put at least 2 dwarf blues in your tank with other nonagressive or schooling fish.

I have both a blue and a couple of dwarves with Angelfish, no probs.

Gouramis have a bad rep for being aggressive. Yes they can get a bit stroppy with other gouramis but never them give other fish as much as a cross look, in fact most of the time they behave as if the others aren't there.

Only thing that would worry me is the barbs - what kind? Tiger's would give both the angel and gouramis a hard time.

They are cherry barbs, I know 2 isnt enough since they are a schoolnig fish, but since my tank isnt fully cycled I could only add a few fish. I plan getting maore A.S.A.P.

Thanks for the info guys, I cant wait to get a powder blue or two, (they are dwarves right?)

powder blue, coral blue, neon blue are all names for blue dwarf gouramis. There are probably more.

Oh Ok. Cherry Barbs would be fine. Don't think you need a school though. Never had any but from what I understand they are very timid with their own kind, if they see another Cherry Barb they run for the hills (ok, behind a plant), I think they do best in pairs so you should be ok now.
