I could not find any threads about breeding paradise fish but i bought a male paradise fish a few weeks and he is so gorgeous i would like to breed him. Could i keep the female in the community tank or would they have to be separated until i bred them? I am pretty sure the males blow bubble nest and they are similar to bettas. Any information will be appreciated! Thank you!

Who would she be beaten up by? The male i presume, but what is the smallest size tank i could keep her in? I have a 5 gallon hex, but ithink that is probably too small.

if you want to breed, i dont know if they can be kept together, but in general, one male and females arent at problem.

A 5 gal is very small for a full grown female.

I have a male and female paradise fish right now in a 10g for breeding. A 20g would be better and I'm trying to find room for one. In a 20-55g you could keep 1 male and 3-4 females to breed. Do not breed in a community tank as the male at least and probably the female will remove the eyes of other inhabitants when they are close to mating. The best is to breed them like bettas conditioning the male and female seperate but paradise fish are much much more active than bettas. They need at least a 10g tank for 1 fish and prefer a 20 with 1 side heavily planted. My male just reached maturity and decided he should remove the eyes of the otos and cory in his tank. Everyone into the 55g except the snails

I thought that 5 gallons would be very small for a female paradise but i was reading online in some places which said they could be kept in smaller sized tanks but there are pretty large fish so i was not sure they were correct. If i kept a female with my male in my 20 gallon community what size tank would i move them to to breed since they filter and other fish would prevent the bubble nest and breeding in the main tank. Or should i buy a 10 galllon to house the female in and then use that for breeding also?

I conditioned my female in my 55g community then moved her in with the male in the 10g. So far it's working well if he'd just figure out how to build a bubble nest. It takes him 2 days to make one and 2 have gotten destroyed. It's not as much size as activity level. Paradise fish are very curious fish and need a few plants and a rock/cave along with some swimming space. If the male and female are together they will get aggressive toward the other fish and the male will want to protect his bubble nest. He will also harass the female nonstop so if you want to keep them together you need at least 2 females to a male in a 20g or more.
