I was in the process of remodeling Priscilla's home, and I decided that it would be best for her if I moved her to a betta bowl. I did this, and she jumped out of the net before we could get her in the new bowl. It was only going to take a minute. She's only moments away from death's door. I made a huge mistake, and I hate myself for it. I feel terrible. I loved Prissy so much. She was a great betta. She keeps fighting it, to the bitter end. I wish she would go ahead and pass, because I know she is miserable. I know I did the wrong thing. I really have no experience with fish. I cried about it, because I truly care about her. It will be a long time before I get another betta, or another fish for that matter. I'm so sad.

Don't beat yourself up. It's a terrible thing but it happens. I'm sure you'll be wanting another betta before too long, they are just to pretty not to want another.

She's not dead.

*does a happy dance*

Since my post, she has been moved back to her 10 gallon home, where she is now the proud owner of two silk plants, and a fake wiggly anemone. And, she also has new carpet! brand new white gravel, which brings out her color nicely. It was a dumb thing for me to move her. I think it was probably nerves for both of us. Plus, you know she had that scare with the net. Jumping out and all. I am so happy she is still alive. She is the greatest. Such a tough girl. :%)

Well I'm very glad to hear she's ok

What you did wasn't dumb. People move fish all the time and accidents can happen.

Sounds like she has a nicely redecorated home.

I'm actually not surprised... as you may know, because of the labyrinth organ, bettas can survive out of water as long as they're moist... if the jump itself didn't harm her, then I'd expect her to be fine... some people have even had dry bettas come back to life...

Congrats-this thread took a quick turnabout. I have two of my bettas in bowls, one just reciently bought. Anyways, I was doing the weekly 100% water change/bowl cleaning and he jumped out of the net...into the sink fortunatly he didn't jump about and was quickly retrieved and placed in the holding cup I use to keep him in for the 5 min it takes to clean the bowl. I wouldn't have wanted to explain to my boss that I was late for work because I had to take my sink plumbing apart to retrieve a fish.
