Hi all,
As a reward for work well done in the setup of my 90g tank, I added 1 pearl gourami. My question is, does this pearl need company? Would it be ok alone, or would say 4-6 of these beautiful creatures be better?
Would it be ok with opaline & gold gouramis? I would like to add at least 1 opaline, perhaps 2, and 1 gold gourami as well.
I also have 3 (soon to be 4) male dwarf gouramis in there, and will also have 1 red honey gourami cuz my sister is givin me her fish she is doing a tank changeover.
It is a 90g, ph is 6.8, temp is 76, water is working its way toward soft. It is planted with live plants, has driftwood, and a "amazon river" theme.

Hey Sneaky_Pete,

Gouramies are not schooling fish and they tend to be loners as they age. With Pearls, you could put a few more in your 90g tank. If you do, just make sure that most of the Pearls are FEMALE.

Blue/Gold/Opaline Gouramies are nice fish but they tend to be a bit belligerent, especially if there is more than one of them in your tank. If you decide to put one in your tank, getting a FEMALE is the best route.

Another important thing to consider: are the other fish that are going to occupy this tank considered "fin-nippers"? If so, you're Gouramies might be miserable.

Sounds like your tank is going to look nice. Good luck.

They are placid and peaceful for the species and more would work and look brilliant. As advised, keep one male amongst the group (they have longer and pointed dorsals, the females are rounded and smaller). Enjoy.

Hi,
thanks for answering.
I picked up another pearl. They are very little so it is hard to tell male from female, but I think that 1 is male and 1 is female.
I have decided to get just 1 larger gourami, likely an opaline gourami.
I do not have fin nippers, only peaceful fish. I wouldnt want my angelfish to get nipped.
Thanks for the answers! I think I will add a couple more pearls in about a month from now, probably females!
