...I'm so bad! *smacks hand* I rescued another betta. See? This is why my sister is supposed to come with me when I go to the LFS... she tries to curb my impulses!

Aww, but really, I couldn't leave the poor girl behind, she was getting beat up on! And the betta girls were SO conveniently located in the same tank as the cory trilineatus/julii (marked julii, but there were more trilines than julii in there) which were what I was there for, anyway. It was... like it was meant to be! Really!

I know it's a horrid picture, but this gives you an idea of what she looks like: [link=Poor little thing!]http:// www.100megsfree4.com/ccatclaws/Rania.jpg[/link]) She's currently housed in my 5 gallon Minibow. The Minibow is waiting for it's plant stock (which should be coming in this week *crosses fingers*) and then a pair of betta imbellis. However, I stuck her in there temporarily so that she has a chance to heal.

She will eventually be introduced into my twenty gallon long, which already houses six betta girls (as well as six black neons and now five cories - four trilineatus and one agassizzi(?)). She'll make a nice contrast with the three red girls (each has a different color wash: blue, green, purple), two cambodian pinks, and the smallest girl who is white with pink and aqua blue fins. Besides, Poly (the smallest) is tired of being the only one who really sticks out of the crowd.

Tentative name for this girl is Rania; The other girls are all named after the Greek Muses, but I'm running low on ounceable names. There's Thalia, Erato, Euterpe, Clio, Calliope and Poly (short for Polyhymnia). All that's left is Melpomene, Terpsichore and Urania. Rania is a shortened version of the last, obviously. Besides... it also sounds like "rain" and she's such a lovely blue-violet, like the sky during an evening shower.

Anyway, so the magical Melafix goes in with the tattered lil girl and we hope for the best. If I keep rescuing betta girls, I'm going to need a tank just for them! ... Good idea!

Oh she's so pretty!

So how many is that for you now? I've been very good lately, I think I'm up to 4 trips to different lfs without bringing home a betta.

Seven beeeeyoouuuteefull betta girls. Well, six lovely ones and one ragged one, but she's still prettyful.

I've been so good. I even passed up a cute lil crowntail girl a month or so ago. I *did* buy a betta boy on friday, but that doesn't count, cause he wasn't for me. I would have bought more, except I'd be overstocking a bit too much. You know, if I gave away the black neons... I just need a bigger tank, that's all there is to it!

agent_alice -

Oh, yes... my girls are really non-aggressive and I don't have any issues with fighting at all. They're in with black neons and cory cats and they're more curious than anything. I'm sure part of it is that five of the girls came from the same shipment of betta girls; they were kept in a community at the LFS where I got them.

Stella -

I know... and then my sister didn't want to go and I'm like... "it's all YOUR fault you didn't go with me!"

She built a bubble nest. Now my mom is convinced that she's a guy and I can't find a way to prove otherwise. You'd think with such a dark body color, it wouldn't be difficult to find the oviposter. I'm still saying she's a girl, but true ID will have to wait until she's a bit older (she's quite small). Either that or see how she reacts to the rest of the girls!

Haha! We have oviposter! *pats Rania on the head* Her fins are healing nicely, to the point where I see her in the morning and notice more of the whiteness of healing fin at night. *dances a happy dance*

I really don't want to keep her isolated for too long, so she doesn't get too used to being by herself. I just want to give her a chance to regrow her fins before introducing her to my other girls.

Oh, phooey! She was healing so nicely, then I came home to find her with a bit of damage on her side. She possibly got caught on a piece of driftwood in the tank (the only thing I can think of that might come close to damaging her scales).

I think she just wants to keep the five gallon to herself! That's what it is! I really would like to get her into the community tank soon, because it seems like she's a bit aggressive, so I don't want her to get too used to being the boss before introducing her to my sweet betta girls. I didn't notice any aggression in the LFS (she was being picked on), so I hope this is just a being-by-herself thing.

I'm hoping her side heals as nicely and quickly as her fins, which are almost like new. It just looks like a scale or two got damaged, so I hope there's no complications.

I'll try to get an updated picture soon. She's really quite lovely.
