my female who lives in my forty gallon community tank has gone white all on her underside, she looks swollen (but i did feed the tank a lot yesterday. i was thinking either dropsey or constipation.

given that most of the deaths in the tank are from dropsey or sudden and out the blue type deaths i am not holding out much hope for constipation.

I have moved her to a smaller container with a few floating plants. it is covered with gaps for air. i haven't fed her.

not really sure what to do oh i added melafix to the water, which is half tank and half fresh temp matched.
if she pine cones i shall have to put her down.

she is basically swollen and white on her belly.
any suggestions

xx

The white belly would just be the stretched skin, unless you see any sort of growths on it, cottony or fungussy.

If you fed her alot then it may very well be constipation - I would starve her for abbout 3-4 days and then feed her some daphnia or a bit of a pea.

Watch her closely to see if she pinecones. At that point you can either try aggressive meds, or put her down, or just let her go on her own.
Dropsy actually can be reversed.. but it's really a gamble.

it doesnt sound like dropsy to me, it sounds like eggs....

are any scales poking out?
is it just on the forward area of her gut?
is she in view of a male?

well she died.

i found her when i got home today.

my male Joey was over the other side of the room, i don't reall think she could see him.

a couple of other fish have died from my 40G where she was so i would guess it is the nameless disease.

i am pretty sad about it. need to buy a plant and pot for burial.

if i got another one i would keep her in her own tank, not the community tank.

thanks for your help people

GFG
