Don't base anything on the ability to build bubble nests!

I have one female that blows bigger bubble nests than a couple of my males. And I have 2 males that refuse to even blow a single bubble.

Really the only sure way: Find the ovipostor, if not, hope they drop eggs. If none of those work, you're in the same boat I am

I have one betta I'm still not sure on the gender. Once I could have sworn I saw the ovipositor, but I can't find it again. He/she doesnt blow any bubble nests: See?

Don't make your decision based on the horizontal lines, those can be found on both male and female stressed bettas It's the vertical stripes that indicate that a female is ready to breed.

Well it's an only female tank, actually is a community tank, but only bettas in there are females, i know it wans't fin damage because i have him/her since she was tiny, she just kept growing but it seems it has stopped now, i guess the only way to know is to put it besides a male and see if she bands up, or acts receptive, i don't know maybe if i put her/him in a betta bowl, i can see if he builds a bubble nest

You know what's funny, that fish looks EXACTLY like a fish i picked up, thinking it was female. After a few weeks in QT, its fins lengthened considerably showing beyond doubt it was a male. Wait a while, it may just be young.

Argh... I somehow managed to delete my post! *boggles at herself* Anyway, count me in as voting female, with this as my poor, deleted post:

I'm going to throw my vote in with female, too... I know I have three darker females and none of them showed the oviposter until they were very well fed and all decided to get breeding happy at the same time. Feed your fish on nutrient rich foods, as if you were going to breed her. In my experience, the oviposter isn't terribly noticeable until she's in breeding condition. Of course, that's just my experience, and I have silly betta girls to base it on.

~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~

Ok since I'm really new to the betta world, specially breeding them. This betta was sold to me as a female, she/he was tiny when I got him/her about 4 months ago, I got it with another double tail female (the one that spawned).
So first it's to big for a female as I know them, but I don't know much.
He/she flares like a boy, but I've seen other females do it.
So I leave it up to you all betta experts to help me. Please?

i'll keep trying and looking for the white spot, so far i can't see it.

If you're really having the much trouble finding the spot on a dark fish I'd say it's a male.

i think that is a male honestly. where did u get that fish b/c females with that kind of finage doesn't come about easily at pet stores.not just baseing my vote b/c of fins but the overall look of the fish. It is easy to tell a male and a female apart if u look at there heads. The females tend to be skinneier in the face then the males which i feel are more borader. i don't really agree with the white spot thing b/c i often have males that have a white spot under them like the tube on a female where the eggs come out.idk i really look at the body and can tell if it is a male or female. well that is my input.
