Yes, it's really hard to tell by that pic. There are a lot of gorgeous females available with fantastic coloring; that used to be an easy factor in determining males from females.

Other than the long finnage I have a couple females who are as large as my males.

The definite method is trying to find the white ovipositor behind the pelvic fin. Your betta looks quite dark in the pic so that shouldn't be too difficult.

hmmm so far this is the best ones i could get, i'll keep trying and looking for the white spot, so far i can't see it.

Any way you could get a closer picture of the betta in question??? The most definite method to determine male/female ... is a little white 'spec' (ovipositor sp?) right behind the ventral/pelvic fins. This here (picture) is of one of my females, I've circled what the ovipositor looks like, and where it is. Hope this helps As soon as you get another picture it will be easier to determine the sex!
