A few days ago I went to Petco to buy some cichlid food and a bigger gravel vac and on my way out, I just couldn't resist! I just had to buy a betta! They have a little stand set up with a whole bunch of them. I originally was going to get the ugliest one I could find (I kinda have a thing for ugly bettas....they always look more cute), but ended up getting a beautiful blue one with marbled fins instead. It is living in a 1/2 gallon vase and seems to be very happy in there. He has built a bubble nest, is very active, and looks great overall. I will post pics on this thread soon.

Needless to say, I was actually very impressed with the betta display. They were all in small plastic containers, but they all were very clean and all the bettas looked healthy and active. It seems that betta care in big chain stores has been getting a little better....well, at least in the ones in my area....

Please see this thread for pics of my new betta....

I am glad that you feel that the conditions that bettas are kept in the local store are improving. Maybe it was a matter of continuing education. Congratulations on your purchase. Have you named him?

Congrats on the new betta!

I've gone the ugly betta route a few times myself, funny thing is they often end up being the best looking fish

Looking forward to seeing some pics

Congrats on the new betta

I usually get the ones with fin rot or other problems - It seems I can't help myself.

Awww I'm glad to hear that betta conditions are improving, I usually want to buy every single one that I see in Petco so they dont have to endure any more torture. Where in the US are you LC?
