Hi all 2 questions,

Are juvenile bettas easy to keep? I say a LFS selling some really beautiful crown bettas about little over an inch in length for a good price and felt a little tempted...

On gouramis, I have an Asian Arowana in a big tank and would like to mix in big gouramis. Which gouramis will grow big enough so that they will not be made meals of by the arowana? The arowana is quite small at the moment say about 8 inches so would like fish that would grow with it. I am not interested in the giant gourami, if that's it's name, cos I saw one big full grown brute at a LFS and felt that it was quite ugly. Ideas please?

The only Gouramis that I can think of that wouldn't be a snack are the Kissing Gouramis, they can grow to 12"- but the mouth of a Arowana can fit a lot of fish in it, I think you need to find some nearly full grown ones. Check the profiles for more info. HTH, Steve

Yeah the gaint gourami or gourami, reaches well over a foot in length and is quite wide. That would go well with the arrowana but you say you don't want one. If your arrowana is unaggressive you could most certainly kissing gouramis. Also make sure not to introduce them to the tank like you would food or the arrowana may become confused and eat your new charges. How big is the arrowana gonna get and how big is the tank?

Validator, how large is your tank? The juveniles aren't really that much harder than the normal grown out bettas - regular weekly water changes, one gallon container, daily feeding, and everything should be set.
