I am going to buy a 10 gallon tank for a betta and some adf's. I was wondering if I should buy a tank divider and get 2 bettas. What would be better?

I'd just get the one betta and forget the divider. If you had two, they would flare at each other all the time until they were completely wore out. This can also cause loss of finnage.

Couldn't you either buy/make an opague divider?

The only thing I would worry about would be one betta jumping into the other's territory during a waterchange or something of the sort. If you keep careful watch over the tank, I don't see why it would be a problem.

I am just going to go with one. Do any of you hold up mirrors to your bettas?

I hold a mirror up every once in a while. You might tire him out if you hold it up too often. Holding up a mirror to him is the best way to get good pictures.

For pictures, as solublefish says. Would not leave mirror there or do it too often for the reasons stated by robofish about the divider. Same principle.

I had a betta in a divided tank, the worst thing about it, was it shared the same water. So if one fish got sick, it transferred it to the others. Also the flaring bit got a pain in the a---, as pervious stated they wear themselves out. So I ended up using colour perspex.

I've had two males in a divided tank for a couple of months and they don't pay much attention to each other anymore.
