This LFS is selling those small wall hanging plastic containers (for a better word).
It holds about 1&1/4 -1&1/2 Lt of water that does not include the small amount of bright artifical substrate.
Now here is the best/worst info. Change the water about 50% every 2-3 weeks, straight from the tap, and feed it only freeze dried blood worms every day. All this info came from the owner. I kid you not.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

Bettas are probably the most abused fish in the trade. I visited a fish store in the locality. It had around 20 bettas each in a half filled clear plastic cups. The amount of water (including the volume of the fish) would be barely 100ml. It could hardly move. I dont think they had changed the water ever after receiving the shipment. Some of the fish in the back row were already dead..most nearly dead.

I expect this from large chain stores, but not the smaller, privately owned ones.

Which one was this, Keith?

It is a very small privatly owned LFs and pet supplies at any one time there would be no more that 5 Bettas and may be about 20+ Goldfish.

The other day, I was in the check out line at a local store that sells fish (but shouldn't), and the lady behind me was buying another male betta - said the last one lived six months and thought that was really good. She told everyone, how she never had to feed it because it ate the roots of plants!
I did tell her that she did have to feed her new fish, but there was no convincing her since the last one lived six months on roots. I also, told her that they can live a lot longer than that if fed, but it was a waste of time. At least, she has something to consider - the rest being up to her to research for herself.
Unfortunately, this falsehood it still being circulated.

I think I got some even "better advice" from a LPS about keeping Bettas. After I commented that I hoped their poor Bettas get adopted soon (they were being kept in very tiny plastic cups) She said oh no they're perfectly fine like that...in fact they PREFER dirty water. I have a Betta at home that I only change it's water when it gets all "skungy" You know, she continued, they live in puddles in the wild. (But does she know that in the wild these puddles are constantly being refreshed with rainwater? How would SHE like to live in "skungy" clothes in a closet? Yes she would stay alive too, but would she be happy?

I disagree: Goldfish have to be the most abused fish with bettas as a close second, my friend kept her goldfish in a tiny bowl, it lasted about three weeks tops.

Personally, I don't think ANY fish likes living in a bowl, but I do think if you have to keep fish in bowls, at least get one that won't grow to be a foot long and live over thirty years.

So if I put one of those Bettas in my small quarantine tank it would think all of its birthdays had arrived at once?

That small quarantine tank, by the way, is 12" x 8" x 8". I usually use it for very small fishes. However, a male Betta would probably find it quite a home from home, particularly as, when it's in use for quarantining fishes, it's subject to twice weekly water changes.

Says something about how badly Bettas are treated when some of them would regard my mini quarantine tank as a luxury penthouse suite ...
