What size tank is it, what kind of cories are they and what else do you have in there? Bettas aren't the best choice for community tanks for a few reasons. First of all, their big fins can get blown around by the filter current, causing them to get overworked and stressed out. Secondly betta fins seem to be like a target for any fish even remotely interested in nipping fins. Also, depending on the betta, they can be really aggressive and are very unpredictable in their behaviour with other fish. By all means you could try a betta with cories, but make sure you keep a close eye on them and have a place to remove the betta just in case it goes bad. ![]() |

If I did get 3 more could I still get a betta. I have been looking around on other forums and people have suggested that corys are good to go with bettas. ![]() |

They all get along well. The cories all dart all over, and the female just cruises around. It depends upon the Betta. At first she checked them out and gave a lil nip. Now she pays no attention to them. What we did was place some plastic mesh in front of the filter to slow down the current. Before we did that she seemed to get hung up at times. And have someplaces for the cories to hide under. We have several rocks piled up to make lil caves, and a lil pot that the cories and the Betta love to go in. Smetimes I see all 5 in 1 the pot I'd say, "Go for it, and if you have to remove them, then do so". ![]() |

Cories don't look like much but they're highly entertaining when you get them in a big enough school. I know of some hobbyists who keep bettas with cories without problems, but for the betta's sake you're really better off just getting a 1 to 2 gallon tank all of his own without any filtration. It's really the easiest and best way to keep a betta IME and i've been keeping them for years, both in communbity tanks and isolated. 6 Black fin cories would make a lovely 10 gallon tank all on their own. Maybe you could think of a nice betta tank to go beside it or somewhere else that could use some livening up. HTH ![]() |

I think a cory tank would be just awesome and am actually considering that on my soon to be emptied 10 gallon. they do seem fine in groups of less than 6 but really liven up when you gat 6 +. Trust me, you will notice a difference. I keep 2 betta tanks in my apartment right now and was thinking of setting another one up when I move into my dorm. My favourite way of keeping them is in a nicebig glass bowl with verious decorations. Bettas are great since they don't take up a whole lot of space and you can keep them in their little tanks all over the house. I'm offering advice, you don't have to take it but it's REALLY the best way to go. ![]() ![]() |

Then I added a emerald cory. They got along fine (I can't say "great" because it wasn't like they played together, they just ignored each other.) After about a year, the betta died, and the cory was alone for a few months. Then we got another betta, and after a few months the new betta started nipping the fins of the cory a LOT. The cory was REALLY stressed out, and I resently moved him to a 10 gallon, and got a couple more like him to start a school, and relieve stress. I guess my point is, it could just depend on the betta (or the corries) maybe if mine had been in a school, the betta would have left them all alone, who knows. I agree with the others who simply suggested try it, but be ready to seperate them. -Dennis |
