The apartments have a new tenant since this picture was taken, so there's four tanks on the shelving unit. ![]() The trick is to use real plants or cloth plants. Plastic can snag delicate fins. Plant it enough so that there's hiding spots, but not so much that there's no swimming room. I don't have any closeups of an individual tank, but I'll tell ya what's in there. Each tank has one taller plant with long, narrow leaves. There's a smaller plant with very slim leaves that arch over and create a little shelter for the betta boys. There's also a small 2 1/2" terracota pot in each tank. There's not a lot of floor space in these tanks, which is why I'm upgrading to two gallon kritter keepers. Same plants, plus a nifty fake bonsai tree. Sorta kinda from the right general area. ![]() ![]() EDIT: I can't spell... ![]() [span class="edited"][Edited by kitten 2004-07-25 22:55][/span] ~Meow. And do you need a light for small Betta tanks, like them, because I might get one. Any info would be great !! ![]() ![]() Thanx |

My room gets pretty chilly during the winter so I have to heat the tanks. I don't want betta popsicles! ![]() These particular tanks (about 10 bucks at walmart) come with a light. A similar tank, minus the light, can be found at petsmart for 7-8 dollars, I think. You don't NEED a light, per se... I like the fact that they have them and the lights (just little nightlight bulbs) provide enough light for hornwort to grow nicely. You can sort of see it in the picture... it grows quickly, taking over the surface of the water without pruning. That's one thing I don't like about the kritter keepers I'm transferring the betta boys to... no lighting! I'm pondering if I could rig up some lighting for them to keep the hornwort growing happily. Besides... even with the lighting, the betta tanks are positively dreary next to my five gallon minibow, which is on the dresser to the right of them. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

I don't know exactly what they're called, but you can usually find them in the hermit crab section of a pet shop. According to the package, they're water proof and some are battery powered while others plug in. I heard an employee at my LFS talking to a customer about them today and I think the were pretty reasonably priced- around 6 dollars. |
