my betta finally got aggressive. For several days after i got some new fish, the betta would occasionally chase somebody away from the food. Two nights ago as i fed them (on schedule, so they couldn't have been starving) my male betta started swimming out of his way in order to bite somebody, i'm not really sure if there are any injuries, but i promtly isolated him.
I have noticed that when i had the betta and first added the common pleco, the betta paid no attention to him at all, so maybe if i want to get more fish, i'll move my pleco in with the betta.

Just out of curiosity, what were the other fish that were in the tank before you isolated the betta? What size tank is it? The betta should be fine with the pleco because the pleco keeps to itself and does not attract attention due to it's "drab look" (meaning it's not colorful so it wouldn't make the betta "jelous".

Aren't gouramis and bettas aggressive towards one another?

Cause, my friend's betta and gourami always ended up fighting and they are in a 55 gallon tank. They seem to be able to always find each other. However he doesn't have any problems with the cories, danios and frogs.

Is that the fish the betta goes after? If not, I never knew bettas hated platies.
