i have had this problem once or twice, the CT rays curl up at the base.

I have been told that sunlight can help strengthen them.

are there any other methods?

I have seen it happen before. If you have pristine water quality and a betta that is of reasonable quality, then IME, it should correct itself. Also a large variety of foods help too.

I actuall had the same prob with one of my guys so heres the info I got on it:
"Other theories aside from the temp would be:

1. space
2. nutrition
3. genetics
4. disease

Each theory has its bases, I can't know for certain which one really causes it in a particular case.

Just to clear up though, temp is indeed one of the proposed causes, just saying that its not the only one.
If you could get them to 80-85, that would be good.

Some fish are predisposed to fin curling while others aren't. The curling particularly starts as the fish ages.

Calcium could also play a part, but this would be for prevention rather than cure, i.e. a fish with a good enough amount of calcium in the diet may have ray curling prevented but a fish with already curled fins and then gets additional calcium would not uncurl the rays"
