there have been many recent posts about poor treatment of bettas both in and encouraged by pet stores. With all the attention such treatment has been getting for a while now, its a wonder that more stores dont seem to be doing more about it. If only for commercial motives, stores should realize that people wont buy sick and dying fish. Even if you are not an expert, you would not buy a fish who is lying on the bottom of a plastic cup in putrid yellow water.

The other day i went into *****. The funny thing is that i was going to get an application for a job there. I walked past the bettas to find that while some had lids on their cups, there were many that did not, and the cups were sitting right next to eachother. it was a disaster waiting to happen. Two cups had noticably less water than the rest, so that the fish had barely enough room to be submerged. I thought maybe this was so the fish wouldn't jump out, but why wouldn't you just PUT A LID ON THE CUP? The water was obviously old, and because there are several places where they keep bettas within the store, and this was the least conspicuous, they could have been there for a while, and i suspect the water had never been changed. I went to the sales lady and said, "are they suposed to not have lids?" she just said yes and walked away. this is the same place where i reported a tank with several, OBVIOUSLY dead fish, and was told they were sleeping, as if i were a child who couldn't tell the difference between dead and alive!

As it turns out, you have to be 18 to work there anyway and i'm only 17, but after this i dont think i would want to work there. i would probably just get fired for doing something crazy, like, i dont know, putting lids on all the betta cups or something. ]:|

A lot of people do buy sick bettas in effort to save them

and this thread might be closed, because it mentions the name of a store
or maybe it is because the store is being criticized, I guess
it has something to do with legal stuff

i sometimes buy sick bettas that aren't to far along and get discounts and get good fish.
