After the trauma here with my female bettas (http://www.fishprofiles.com/interactive/forums/thread.asp?id=42128) I thought I had things settled down. My original 2-Strawberry & Cerry-in a 10g, Jewel & Lily in a 5g. Today I notice Cerry has bits of her tail and anal fin missing

Strawberry is definitely the problem...she chased Lily non-stop when she was in the 10g, she basically tore now-passed Cinnamon to shreds, now Cerry is getting it from her.

First of all, I've read from others who keep females together than some nipping can be expected. But how much is too much?

I'm thinking of putting Strawberry into the 5g and the other 2 girls into the 10 with Cerry. Is there any other fish I could keep with her in the 5g or should I pretty much consider her in solitary confinement?

This is so discouraging, I'd wanted to keep female bettas for a long time but haven't been having the best of luck

Oh... that's no fun at all! ...poor betta girls. *gives Strawberry a good talking to ]:|*

I just added another female to my girls and she's a little devil. There seems to be some slightly damaged tails this morning, so I separated her into a breeding net in the tank, as I won't be home to watch over her today. I hope she settles down or she's going to be in solitary confinement, too!

Perhaps you could find a breeder in your area that could make sure you get some gentle sibs? Hmm... think if I bred my Justice (my sweetest male) with one of my girls, I'd get a slew of sweeties? You could have some of the fry, I promise! Not that I have ROOM to breed them...

Kitten I hope you have luck with your new girl and she settles down.

I just put Cerry in the 5g with the other girls, testing the waters so to speak. I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure out what to do.

-I have a paradise fish in a 5.5g QT who is ready to move. He may go in the 10g in place of the bettas, or in my 29g with platies, rams and an angel...I just don't know about compatability
-3 girls in the 5g on a living-together trial.
-Strawberry is still in the 10g, only betta in there...she'll either end up alone in the 5g or with my WCMMs

Any advice, suggestions, whatever would be appreciated :%)

I give up

Paradise fish went in the 29g.

Strawberry is with the WCMMs.

Had to pull Cerry out of the 5g, within minutes of being in the tank she had Jewel's tail shredded So she's back in the 10g.

Waaaay too much trauma

Hmm... okay... maybe put Jewel and Lily in the ten gallon, Cerry in the five. Perhaps ADF's or something else as company assuming the girls won't chase after them?

How's Strawberry doing with the WCMM?

I'm sorry you're having so many issues with the betta girls... Seems like you just got a few aggressive ones.

She's either intimidated by them or the move, or just mad. Currently hiding behind a small rock cave

Paradise fish (poor guy needs a name) looks sooo good in the 29g, his colors fit in nicely with my orange and blue platies. The juvenile angel has been chasing him a bit, he in turn is flaring at the angel. Big enough tank with plants and hiding places so hopefully that will settle down.

I'm leaving things as-is for now...

Oh, bother. Turns out that my newest betta girl is a damn brat. She's picking on everyone, leaving torn fins in her wake. All my sweet girls are cowering in fear. ARGH! Now I know how you feel... she would be absolutely stunning in the tank if she wasn't such a fiend!

She's in solitary confinement now. I may try to add her again when everyone's fins aren't so ruffled. Right now I'm pissed at her. I save her from being picked on and this is how she repays me?! Grrr...
