Do lone bettas in bowls require heaters? No, although they certainly need a warm-enough room and no drafts.
Can you breed bettas without a heater or filter? Sure.
But the kicker: can you raise the fry without either? I'd like to see it done. Best case scenario, you'd lose a lot more fry than anyone would want to, and you'd get very, very slow growth out of the remainder.

lets hope no silly typing mistakes in this one

as you live in england i would say no. i tried keeping one in a bowl, in my kitchen which is the warmest room, got boiler, oven etc. but it didn't work the temperature dropped to low during the night so i had to get a small tank with heater.

in your other thread you said you had 1ft tank with heater, a betta would do well in that.

You need a heater if your room gets too cool. During the winter, my room gets to a lovely chilly 60 degrees at night. My bettas were alive, but not happy at all. They've never been as active as they are with their heaters and they seem to be in heaven now that the temperatures are higher than the heaters keep them.

The heaters are set in the mid-high seventies and now that summer is here, they rarely turn on except at night when it's cooler. They also bubble nest like crazy now that the summer heat is here.

So... if your room is warm enough and the temperature stable, you can do without a heater. Otherwise, you may want to keep the tank warm with a heater of some sort. Or keep him in a warm place. Some people recommend the top of a refrigerator and the like. *shrugs*

It's better to get a heater, especially when the temperature drops at night.
