So I read that site and it makes sense. It seems like my only choice it to add CO2. This doesn't sound easy or cheap. I've never used CO2. So I guess what I'm saying is, what do I do? I've heard people talk DIY CO2, but I don't know what it is or what to do.
Thanks

Well you do have another choice, like I've said before, you can use flourish excel. It comes in a bottle and you add a certain bit every day. In that same link go to the articles, and it will give some instruction on how to do DIY CO@, which is usually both cheap and easy, but getting it diffused in a 5.5 will take up a lot of room in the tank. I'd probably go with the excel option myself on a small tank.

Hi,
Personally, I would skip the CO2 entirely. First, you
have a small tank. The "equipment" alone (2L bottle,
tubing, and reactor or difuser)will take up more room
than the tank itself. Second, with the fish load that
you stated in your initial post, you will have more than
enough nutrients supplied by them and the fish food that
you feed them. Lastly, the plants listed in your initial
post are low light plants that are slow growers. You are
currently providing all that they need and probably more.

About the only thing that that particular Flourish product
will add is Carbon, and that is something that you might
consider. The Carbon is present in the organic waste
products from the fish and food, but it may be more
tightly bound than the Carbon in Flourish and thus the
plants can extract it easier and may grow slightly faster.
