Ok This is an easy question for you guys with co2 setups, What is the best test kit for measuring co2, is there an actual co2 test kit, And what PPM should a planted tank generally sit around?

And thirdly, would it cause any harm to use a regulator / solionde(sp) valve on a yeast canister? I know im sure its just as easy to go buy a canister..but i cant afford on yet and i was given a regulator.

i don't know of any tests that will accurately measure co2, but you can use a chart like this: http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/CO2/kh-ph-co2-chart.html (sorry, links aren't working right now) to estimate your concentration as long as you know your ph and your kh values. even this chart is just a good guess, but much much cheaper than trying to get an accurate reading.

you cant use a solenoid valve on a canister unless it is pressure rated, because co2 production will continue after the valve shuts off causing a build up of pressure and if the bottle explodes it will be messy, also all of your fittings and hose up to the valve will need to be rated and when the valve turns on it will let a huge amount of co2 into the tank untill the presssure drops

cheers dan

Measure ph and Kh and use the table moondog linked to.

Target should be 30ppm which will be very difficult with yeast.

Absolutely impossible to use a gas regulator on a yeast mix, don't even think about it.

Hi,
There are many charts available on the internet.
When I tried Moondog's I got a failure.

Try this one:

frank, you have to copy & paste the link, for some reason it wouldn't come out right.

Frank,
Worked fine for me!

Go head and use the chart but aim for 30ppm as Bensaf said. With a yeast set up, depending on the tank size you might have to run multiple brews. On my 40G I had 3 going. Never tested my CO2 with this but it seemed to make a difference with my plant.

Save yourself from a lot of frustation and don't bother with yeast co2 on a 110g. It simply won't work in a way that will yield good results. Either use Seachem Excel or go with a plant load that doesn't need co2.

I agree completely. The tank is too big. Doing DIY you will spend all your time messing with bottles and mixtures and all just to end up with an unstable tank.

A decent non Co2 method without too much light will be much better, less work and good results - just takes more time.

I have noticed before that my tank has done very little with the use of yeast DIY setup... However i use at the moment Flourish excel, But i want to make this cheaper in the longrun. My tank is moderatly populated with plants, They are growing quite well with the proper dosage of excell..So Ill just save my money and get a co2 tank. I have the diffuser and Regulator... i was more curious if you could combine the yeast with a regulator setup.. Im impatiant lol.. thanks everyone for your input.

Hi,
Because it takes very little pressure to push the CO2 into
a regulator, it is probably the only sensible way to
attempt DIY CO2 injection. I'd give it a try.
