hey guys, ive got a huge anubias plant on drft wood,it has hundreds of roots all over it,well i have some spare peaces of drift wood,so id like to put some anubais on the other bits of wood,i was wondering if some1 copuld give me some steps to follow or some hints/tips so i do it correctly, ive never done this b4so im not real sure on the best way to do it so the plant has the best chance of taking to the new wood....any help would be great...
also, you know those fake 3d reefs/rock ledges that you can put against the back pane of your tank, well ive got one, with a space on one of its ledges(its hard to describe what i mean),do you think a cutting from the anubias would take to living there,on the reef ledge!theres ample room for it,and plenty of places the roots can wrap around things,i just think that this would really add the to look of my tank.some nice big green leaves coming of the edge of the reef would look real nice...

Hi,
Take a look at the various plant sites such as Tropica,
or Arizona Gardens. The plant grows from the top of a
thick stalk called a rhizome and the roots come out
of the sides of it. As the plant grows, it forms new
sections and plants along the rhizome.
Look at the rhizome and you can see it is in "sections"
making up a series of plants. If you take a sharp
razor blade and slice through the rhizome to
separate the new plant from the old, you then have two
complete plants. Before dividing the plants, wait until
the babies are at least two inches.

As far as the ledge on your backdrop, it may or may not
"take" to it. You will need to secure it to the ledge
so that it won't move, and stays put long enough so the
roots will begin to adhere to the backdrop material.

My 5ft tank is nothing but a Anubias jungle and all I have ever done is cut a piece/s of and tie it with 15lb nylon fishing line reasonably tight all the way along the plant stem. As they are slow growers it will take some time for the roots to attach to the old DW.

With the backing this "can" be tried as I will be doing some thing similar to a hard large piece of DW which is totally impossible to tie the Anubias on.

Get the slow setting Super Glue just use a few drops along the stem and hold it there for a minute or so and it should stick.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

ok great thanx frank and ofcourse you to keith, yeah im not much of a green thumb when it comes to plants in tanks, but ill give it go...the plant im talking about has plenty of places where the new roots are coming out.so that shouldnt be a problem,i think the hard part, will be getting it to take to the new wood....the reef is solid so hopefully the plant will take to that ok...

When I rescaped my 55G I used zip-ties to hold the anubias to the driftwood.
