Light On All Weekend? | |
psuklinger Fingerling Posts: 31 Kudos: 12 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Aug-2006 | question. I just planted aprox. 20 plants in my 46 gallon tank. I will be going away this weekend and wanted to know if it was ok to leave my aquarium lights on all weekend. I have a 30w plant and a 30 watt regular hood. Also, how long should I keep the lights on usually? I want the plants to spread and become full, but don't want to screw it all up. Thanks matt |

Im guessing by the phrase "regular hood", you have flourescent lights. if so, it should be fine to keep them on all weekend. Most other aquarium lighting, such as incandescent, produce a great deal of heat, so it would not be wise to keep them on all weekend. |

They are not too expensive, especially from discount stores and you can use it all the time, that way you wont need to worry about turning them on/off at the same time every day. Plants require between 8 and 10 hours of light per day. |

Most are once set and forget type I am still using my origional from 25+ years I also have two otheres one on the Betta tank and the other in the orchid house for the hot box. Well worth the money I personally do not like the digital type. There are some which you can set up to come on and off many times during a 24 hr period but there cost more and are not worth the extra money. You want one that comes on and off once within the 24 hrs. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. The plants are adjusting to their new environment and aren't going to do much in two days. All you'll do by leaving the lights on is encourage algae. Or get yourself a timer. But if you cant tget it by tomorrow just leave the lights off. No biggie |
