I finally got around to moving everybody from my 20G to my 29G yesterday. That was an ordeal...but not worthy of thread space.

anyhoooooo.... I'm floating in the plethora of aquatic plant variety out there, and I need some suggestions.

Currently I have some Lobelia cardinalis, and a small java fern plantlet that I have been nurturing from another tank. I have plenty of background plants, including some giant Sagittaria subulata (huge... some of the blades are over 20", green Cabomba, and some sunset Hygro.

I have plenty of light on this tank - 130W of compact flourescent greatness. I also have a pressurized CO2 system (Bioplast Profistar) and flourite for my substrate.

So I need some decent mid to foreground plants. All those species in my profile link are gone...mostly casualties to me moving 2 months ago and chucking a lot of them that I didn't care for. I'm open to just about anything here... save more java fern... the more difficult to grow the better I say.

Well with that light set up and CO2 your choices are almost limitless !

Mid Ground:
Crypts are always a winner for mid-ground plants. Ponderfolia (sp?) is particularly nice, deep red color.

Any of the Bacopa species are great for mid ground in the right sized tank. They will grow tall, but they are not the fastest growers so it’s easy enough to keep the height right for mid-ground planting.

Pearlweed (Hemianthus Micranthemoides) is a beautiful mid ground plant IMO and a bit more of a challenge then the above to keep good looking.

Hygro Corymbosa Campact makes a good solitary mid-ground plant and Ludwigia Glandulosa is another good solitary plant.

Foreground:
Well if you want the carpet look , the usual suspects Glosso, Tenellus, Microsword, Hairgrass. I would just avoid Riccia more trouble then it’s worth IMO.

Anubias always good, but in your light would need to be shaded to aviod getting covered in algae.

Crypts, again, but a lot would probably get too big for the front of a 29g. Parva Crypt is a really nice plant. Smallest crypt and actually doesn’t look like the normal crypt, very bright green and more demanding on light then the average crypt.

Hmmm… think it’s time I started planning my own next tank.
