I saw under the classifieds that Riccia was posted. I know very little on this plant since no LFS seem to carry it around here (Florida Panhandle).
Can someone please give me the requirements and uses for Riccia?
Thank you.

A lot of people I asked told me that riccia requires high light & C02. My tank has low light, but I do have pressurised C02. Like you, I found riccia can't be bought at any LFS around here - so I bought a small patch from a hobbyist on ebay. Despite my low ight level, the stuff is going great guns and I have been able to harvest it several times to cover fresh rocks.

Growth was slow to start off & at first, I thought I was going to lose it all. My fish were eating it at a faster rate than it's growth & the patch dwindled down to almost nothing - but then it happened. It started pearling & growing & soon I will have more than I can find space for in the tank.

I just looked the plant up here http://www.tropica.com/default.asp & it says low to high light, but requires C02. This confirms what I have found in my tank too.

I followed a tip I found in tetratech's log & secure it to rocks with a ladies bun net & it works. It is a nice plant to cover rocks & I like it a lot better than Java moss. If you can, give it a try & it may work for you too.

Cheers

I live in gulf breeze near pensacola, and here i cannot find any riccia, I picked some up though while in tampa, a store i went to there carried, i've been looking for more around here but have been unsuccesful. Riccia is a high light floating or carpeting plant.
if you find any tell me where...if it is near pensacola.

edit: sorry just realized that you live in p-cola.
Sorry to change the subject but what do you find the best LFS in around here, so far i find water world the best.

I plan to put the Riccia in a 55g The lighting is not a problem since it has 3wpg (160 in all) . a little high, but I dont havent had any problems with algae. The CO2 is going to be a problem as it is stocked and is a lil over capacity...I make up for this with a AC 110 filter. As I have heard numerous times before, a there is no such thing as over filtration.
Water peramiters are great. PH is 6.8. And it is stocked with mostly tetra's, 4 rams, and a False Zebra Pleco.
The plants in there now are Amazon Swords and Micro Sword as a carpet.
With all of this, do you think Riccia will have a chance or just wilt away?
