I recently purchased a 55 gallon aquarium, and it will be my first planted tank. I am planning on having Cory Cats, Kuhli Loaches, algae shrimp, Glass Catfish, Gouramis, and either Platys or some type of tetra. As far as the substrate, I have an undergravel filter w/ black gravel.
I know I have seen Java Moss recommended, but other than that, I am clueless with plants! I would prefer to have plants that are easy to maintain, especially since this is my first attempt. Any ideas on what does or doesn't work with the fish I plan on having? I'm not really sure about the lights that came w/ my tank, and I have no problem buying a new one...and I have a light on each side, so I can have 2 different types, if that would help?
I am also going to buy some slate and build my own caves and rocks, so I would like to have one of those set up so I can plant on the top of a cave.

Hi!

Actually you have quite some options, but you will need to find out what the wattage of your light is, so then you can choose the proper plants, they don't have to be "easy plants, in fact they are all easy if you fulfill their needs, please check the plant data base link on my signature, that will sure help you.

If you then you have specific questions about caring and keeping I would be glad to help.

It's all a matter of taste
