Hi,

I don't have any experience with Aquabasis Plus, but you can also get Flourite from here]http://aquaticlifeaquariums.com.au/[/link] and [link=here]http://www. [/link]. The second place also has Onyx Sand and Laterite. You can get Eco-complete [link=here]http://www.noosaaquariumsupplies.com.au/index.php?p=productsList&iCategory=9[/link] and [link=here.

For a much cheaper alternative, I find laterite from a local LFS underneath regular gravel/sand works quite well too. Good luck!

Several people on the forums have mentioned the substrates Fluorite, Laterite, Eco Complete, I have been trying to source these here in Australia. Not had any success until a few mins ago, when I came across this site http://www.aquamail.com.au/[/href]. Spoken with them now & they have Fluorite & an alternate (cheaper product called Aquabasis Plus). I can also get Aquabasis Plus at lfs. Fluroite is more expensive, but I've not heard recommendations on Aquabasis Plus (either way). I'm hoping my new tank comes before Monday & need it to set up asap when I receive it,cause I have to tfr over water, etc from old tank (it's being traded in). Supplier for Fluorite is shutting down for a week after COB today. If I let them know in next hour or so, they can ship Fluroite to me today & I will receive it on Monday. That's why I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Aquabasis Plus - because I can buy that from lfs, but if people tell me Fluorite is better - then I need to make a quick decision & order it shortly. I'd be greatful if anyone had time for a quick line about Acquabasis Plus or if they think Fluorite is the better option. Robyh

Cheers

Frank,

About the Laterite:

This is from the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Website:

Adding First layer Pure Laterite To The Gravel Bed.

New Aquariums:

1.Rinse First layer before use.

2.Distribute First layer evenly on the bottom of the aquarium using 1 oz. (28g) or First layer for every U.S. gallon (4.0 L) of aquarium water. For example, use 20 oz. (567g) in a 20 U.S. gallon aquarium.

3.Now add about one inch (2.5 cm) of gravel on top of First layer.

4.Mix the gravel evenly throughout First layer.

5.Add the remaining gravel to the aquarium.

6.Gently fill the aquarium with water, being careful not to disturb the gravel.

FYI ,

Ingo

Ingo,

There are many different kinds of laterite. That particular instruction may apply to the "First layer" laterite brand, but in my case the laterite I bought was 80% very fine particles and 20% clay-colored rocks. If I had tried to wash this, then I'd end up with just the 20% rocks. I guess it really depends on the particle shape & size of the base fertilizer.
